How does digital health impact me?
The impact of technology on me is unimaginable. I spent almost 22 hours of my day on technology. I work on computers; listen to music on my phone. Basically I am surrounded by technology all day long. Unfortunately enough all of these things affect me in a negative way in some way. I already have a power in my eyes. My eyes turn red with 5 minutes if the picture I am looking at is too bright. Also I get a headache after working for a while and it is so bad that I am not able to work. Also when I am listening to music if the music is too loud it is going to damage my ears. If the music is too loud then the small hairs inside our ears that move and send signals to our brain that there are sound are going to break. The worst part about this is that the hairs don’t grow back again. So once they are broken you can never get it back again. With the help of Bluetooth headsets talking on the phone has become a bit easier but earlier people had to hold on to their phones with their hands. That led to extreme joint pains. Our elbow is a join and there were some cases where the joints got locked. That is a really big problem for me. I don’t have a Bluetooth headset which I believe has the potential to damage my ears. On the other hand I talk a lot on my phone. I already have an elbow joint pain. It is going to be a really big problem if my elbow get locked because then I won’t be able to use that hand for quite a while. Since I work on computers; that means that I have to do a lot of typing. This is a problem for my wrist. After working for a while I have to do some hand and wrist exercise in order to keep the muscles working and also have blood flowing. As there are advantages to having technology, there are disadvantages as well. Unfortunately I can’t live without all these tech gadgets around me because I am literally going to be handicapped with them. These were just some of the physical problems that I face but there is one major physiological problem that I face. It is not just me who has this problem but there are probably millions of people out there in the world who has this problem. It is addiction with things. Most people who are like me have an addiction to social networking sites such as FaceBook, Twitter, Skype and many other things. This greatly affects our time management for things. A person like me who checks what is going on literally after typing every sentence; it doubles the amount of time it takes to complete the work you are doing. This sometimes led to tiredness from social communicating from which I am not able to finish my work.
